V-Ray offers three subsurface scattering options – object-based, prepass, and ray traced. This helps you create convincing translucent materials like skin, milk, marble, and wax.

Fast SSS materials

Create physically-based SSS materials that render fast. V-Ray's multilayered subsurface scattering includes diffuse and specular, plus single and multiple scattering components. So you can create any type of translucent material.

Ray traced subsurface scattering

Ray traced subsurface scattering isn't just more accurate – it's easier to set up and there's no prepass.
And it works on GPU or CPU. So you can fine tune your SSS materials interactively.

Accurate volumetric SSS

V-Ray's volumetric subsurface scattering material is accurate and unbiased.
