Material Room 101- Working With Image Maps
For use with Poser 6 or 7

Poser's Simple Material Room provides an easy-to-manage interface that allows users to quickly apply basic surface textures to objects and figures. This tutorial will walk through the process of applying an image map in the Simple Material Room.

Firefly Rendering Tips
For use with Poser 5 and Poser 6

The Firefly render engine, introduced in Poser 5, provides Poser users with a high-quality micropolygon rendering engine capable of extremely accurate, photorealistic output. Firefly is a sensitive beast, however, and its many settings and options can be somewhat daunting to the beginning user. In this tutorial I’ll explain how to get high-quality results from Firefly without “stress-testing” it; often, turning the settings all the way up to the maximum uses system resources with no improvement in image quality.

Rendering with Depth of Field
For use with Poser 5, 6 or 7

Poser's Depth of Field setting can provide a 'photographic' look to your renders, allowing you to create subtle or dramatic focus effects to emphasize particular parts of your images.

Simulating Isometric Cameras
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

Wouldn't it be great to be able to create isometric images or sprites from with Poser? Even though Poser lacks isometric camera settings, now, by following the steps in this tutorial, you can create them from within Poser.

Getting Acquainted With The Face Room
For use in Poser 5, 6 and 7
Poser's Face Room allows a great deal of control over the shape and texture of your figure's face- here's how to get started using the Face Room tools.

Advanced Material Room- The Alternate Channels
For use in Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

Been wondering what alternate_diffuse and alternate_specular are for?

Animating Material Room Textures
For use with Poser 7 as well as Poser 5 or 6

Not all of Poser's material properties can be keyframed- but if you're willing to take a trip into the Advanced Material Room (the regular Material Room in Poser 5) you can use a special type of node to create animated textures and produce all kinds of interesting effects.

Setting Up Toon Renders
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

The Firefly engine in Poser can produce amazingly detailed, photorealistic renders- but it can also generate a cel-shaded look for more stylized images. Here's how-

Using UVMapper to Generate Templates
For any version of Poser

Many content creators provide templates, or seam guides, to show which part of the texture applies to which part of the figure or prop. Even if you don't have templates, this tutorial will show how to generate a set of them for Poser 5's Judy figure and, by extension, other things with complex mapping....

Shading Polygon Groups In Poser
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

In this tutorial we will use Poser's Grouping Tool to apply textures to specific parts of an imported 3D model.

Ambient Occlusion In Reverse
For use with Poser 6 or 7

One of the significant features of recent versions of Poser is the ability to use Ambient Occlusion, the natural property of objects to obstruct ambient light, shading nearby surfaces. In this tutorial we’ll walk through the process of using an Ambient Occlusion node in the Poser 6 Material Room to produce the opposite effect...

Wetlook Eyes and Lips
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

Achieving a realistic wetlook effect on the eyes and lips has been virtually impossible in releases of Poser prior to 5. Poser's Firefly renderer now makes it possible to create this effect, via the Firefly renderer's Shader Node System.

Stupid Node Tricks Volume 1-4
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

Here's some screen grabs displaying some cool effects achieved with the nodes.

Node by Node Vol. 1 Color Ramp
For use with Poser 7 a well as Posers 5 or 6

One Node at a time, what they are, what they can do. This issue covers the Color Ramp Node.

Applying Displacement Maps
For use with Poser 5 and Poser 6

This is a simple tutorial showing how to apply a displacement map. Along the way you will also learn a little about texture nodes, saving materials, and applying them. I believe that the P5 material room is perhaps the coolest element of the new stuff. It is easy to use once you understand the lingo, and it can make some truly powerfull effects! If you don't believe me.... wait until the special effects tutorial!

Making Flash Animation Movies
For use with Poser 7 as well as Posers 5 or 6

Recent versions of Poser give you the ability to create and export FLASH ANIMATIONS in SWF format which can be played with the Macromedia Flash Player...
